
Lambert St. Louis International Airport bears the name of Major Albert Lambert the first person in St. Louis to be issued a pilot’s license. The site of the airfield was originally a hot air balloon launch location called Kinloch Field which Major Lambert purchased. President Teddy Roosevelt was the first U.S. president to take an airplane ride, and that historic occasion also occurred at Kinloch Field. In 1928, Major Lambert leased the airfield to the City for 15 months for one dollar, and it became St. Louis Municipal Airport, and was the first city owned airfield in the country.
